This article covers Dell laser printers only. For

Most recent laser printers are compatible with the
Dell Printer Easy Installer software. In many cases the Easy Installer can
detect and install your wireless printer automatically with a single click.

The Easy Installer software is on the CD supplied with your
printer. Insert the CD and double click 'setup.exe' to begin installation.
The software can also be downloaded from dell.com/support.
Enter your service tag or select your printer model then select 'Drivers and
Downloads'. The Easy Installer is listed in the 'Application' section.
For older models
refer to your user guide for
initial setup instructions.
Troubleshooting
If you are unable to print after
completing the initial setup try these troubleshooting steps.

Check the Printer Screen for Errors
Check the screen of your printer for error messages.
If an error message is present resolve this problem first.
Search for
the error message on our knowledge base for help. To get the best results from
your search include the name of your product and the full error code ex.
"3110cn Paper Jam 071-100" rather than simply "Paper Jam".
Print a Settings Report
Print a Settings Report to confirm that your printer
is able to produce a page. If the settings page fails to print check the
printer screen for an error code and troubleshoot this issue first.
For most current machines to print a settings page:
- Press the 'Menu' button.
- Select 'System'.
- Select 'Reports' or
'Report/List'.
- Select 'System Settings'.
Check the 'Wireless Network' section of the report.
Confirm a valid IP Address for your network is listed, typically this will be
in the 192.168.x.x or 10.0.x.x range. If the address appears valid continue to Test the Network Connection.
If the address listed is 0.0.0.0 or in the range
169.254.x.x the printer has failed to connect to your wireless network. Skip to Connect the Printer to Your Wireless Network.
Test the Network Connection
Note: Connecting to a
Virtual Private Network (VPN) may prevent your computer from connecting to
local network devices such as printers or Network Attached Storage (NAS)
devices. Disconnect from any VPN connections while installing or
troubleshooting connectivity issues with network devices.
Confirm your printer is able to send and receive
data across the wireless network.

If the test fails continue to Connect the Printer to Your Wireless Network.
Connect the Printer to Your Wireless Network
To connect using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS):
- Confirm both your router and
printer support WPS.
- Press and hold the WPS button on
your printer. A message indicating WPS mode is running should appear on
the screen.
- Press and hold the WPS button on
your router.
- Allow up to 2 minutes for the
devices to connect.
- Print a Settings Report to confirm the printer has successfully
joined your wireless network.
To connect manually using the printer front panel:
- Press the 'Menu' button.
- Select 'System'.
- Select 'Admin Menu'.
- Select 'Network'.
- Select 'Wireless Setup'.
- Select your network from the
list.
- Enter your network passphrase.
- Print a Settings Report to confirm the printer has
successfully joined your wireless network.
Some older models may need to be initially connected via USB
or Ethernet cable to configure Wi-Fi settings. If you printer does not support
WPS or front panel configuration refer to your user guide for model specific instructions.
Note: Dell Wi-Fi
printers connect to the 2.4GHz band. If your router is dual mode 2.4GHz/5GHz
ensure the 2.4GHz band is enabled.
Check the Driver Port Settings
To check the Driver Port Settings in Windows XP, Vista and 7:
- Click the Start button.
- Select Devices
and Printers from
the Start Menu or type it in to the search
field.
- Right click on the printer icon.
- Select Printer
Properties.
- Select the Ports tab.
- Click Configure
Port.
- Check the Printer
Name or IP Address field
matches the printer IP address shown on your settings report.
- If they do not match edit the Port
Name and Printer
Name or IP Address fields
to match the IP Address shown your settings report, then click OK.
Note: If the printer IP address keeps changing manually
set a static IP address.
To check the Driver Port Settings in Windows 8(8.1):
- Move the mouse cursor to the
upper right corner of the screen until the Charms
Bar appears.
- In the Search box type devices and printers.
- Click Settings.
- Click Devices
and Printers.
- Right-click the desired printer.
- Click Printer
Properties.
- Select the Ports tab.
- Click Configure
Port.
- Check the Printer
Name or IP Address field
matches the printer IP address shown on your settings report.
- If they do not match edit the Port
Name and Printer
Name or IP Address fields
to match the IP Address shown your settings report, then click OK.
Note: If the printer IP address keeps changing manually
set a static IP address.
To check the Driver Port Settings in Windows 10:
- In the Search box type Control Panel.
- Touch or click Control
Panel (Windows
Application).
- Touch or click Devices
and Printers.
- Touch and hold or right-click the
desired printer.
- Touch or click Printer
Properties.
- Touch or click the Ports tab.
- Touch or click Configure
Port.
- Check the Printer
Name or IP Address field
matches the printer IP address shown on your settings report.
- If they do not match edit the Port
Name and Printer
Name or IP Address fields
to match the IP Address shown your settings report then click OK.
Note: If the printer IP address keeps changing manually
set a static IP address.
Clear the Print Queue
If documents that have previously failed to print
are stuck in the print queue, new documents will not be able to print.
How
to Cancel a Print Job in the Queue, select you Operating System and follow
the instructions.
Print a Windows Test Page
Application settings, in particular paper size and
type settings, may cause issues when printing.

If the Windows test page prints successfully, but
other documents do not check the application paper size and type
settings are correct.
Uninstall then Reinstall the Print Driver
If the network connection to the printer is working
correctly but you're still unable to print, download the latest driver for your printer.
Uninstall the Existing Dell
Laser Printer Drivers, then re-install using the new one.
